Back to school for dogs

A Great Time to Think About Your Dog’s Education & Social Development

As August comes to a close what is on everyone's mind?  Back to school time!

Thousands of two legged kids are gearing up to turn their brains back on and meet back up with their friends.

Your four legged kids can too!  We promise learning, structure and enrichment can be FUN!

A day of doggy daycare or boarding allows your dog to experience the benefits of socializing, learning and experiencing.

For your ease of mind know that at The Ranch we rely on positive reinforcement  methods such as food treats, praise, petting and favorite toys or games.

So while you're in the mindset of back to school, let's talk about positive based training classes that you can do with your dog.

Why do you need them?

Advice from a dog trainer -

While its true dogs can demonstrate all sorts of negative or maladaptive behaviors to be addressed with training, we can also use training to help promote and guide positive behaviors.

We reached out to our friend and favorite trainer Paula Novak of Canine Country Academy in Lawrenceville GA for more:

"A proactive approach verse a reactive approach to your dog's learning can make for a happier life together!

So often we want to focus on one particular skill...sit, come, their name.  These are all great skills to teach.  That being said, a bigger win is to think about the dog's perspective in sharing our human world.  They do things that work and if we can guide them to be "right" we will find more and more success for them."

By working with Paula and her team of trainers Courtney and I learned that its less about teaching our dogs a specific skill but more about  teaching them how to think and make good decisions on their own.
